Globant stand at JRSL '08

Few times  in the history of men, the world has seen such a nerdy picture like this one.

Note: the apples are a courtesy of the chinese market in L. M. Campos and Zabala (well, Majo actually had to pay for them).

Anyway, there is nothing to say about this post, I just wanted to blog the picture, but it seemed so empty without text, so I had to invent something. This should be enough. Well, just let me finish this line. Ok, this is it, bye.

Este JAR te salva la vida... XHTMLRenderer

Hace mucho tiempo estaba perdido y desesperado, ya nada importaba en mi vida, hasta que conocí este proyecto: https://xhtmlrenderer.dev.java.net/

Bueno, en serio, es un motor de rendering de XHMTL + CSS, que anda MUY bien, de hecho mejor que cualquier navegador que tengan a mano. Para qué sirve? Bueno, yo tenía este problema: Una página generada dinámicamente que tenía que mandar a imprimir y/o a PDF. Para hacer esto normalmente uno tendría que romperse la cabeza codeando el PDF hasta que quede igual a lo que se muestra en la página. O bien, usar su motor de rendering amigo y alimentarlo directamente al generador de PDF.

El resultado? simplemente fantástico, a priori no tenía muchas esperanzas, teniendo en cuenta la disparidad de los motores de los navegadores, pero mientras uno respete XHTML y CSS, anda ferpecto.

Que lo disfruten...

PD: No se asusten por el beta. Ah, y está pensado originalmente para embeber contenido html en aplicaciones de escritorio.

Back in black

Bueno, los voy a aburrir con las oscuras y malignas razones que hicieron que dejara de escribir, o mejor dicho, no tengo ganas. I'm back. Quiero agradecer a la gente que vino hoy a las 10 de la mañana a la charla de Web 2.0 en las Jornadas Regionales de Software Libre '08 y a Jon "maddog" Hall con quien tuve el placer de compartir una conferencia de prensa ayer.

En general no me gustó cómo salió la conferencia, me quedé sin tiempo y no dije ni la mitad de las cosas que tenía ganas de decir, mucho menos recibir preguntas. La próxima vez será, y saldrá mejor supongo. Voy a ver si la hago internamente en Globant.

Home away from home

Esta será mi morada en los próximos días, no me animo a decir hasta que vuelva porque -long story short- probablemente me cambien a mitad de la estadía. En fin, les presento el departamento -nothing too fancy though- en las manos de un sorprendido Jon:

It's been a while...

...since my last post, and that's because my life has become pretty caotic the last couple of days. As many of you may know I'm supposed to be flying to Chicago next Saturday, and I say "I'm supposed" 'cos where I work you never exactly know until you're there. Anyway, that's the big news, I'll be staying there for approximately 2 months and a half, probably enjoying Chicago's spring and Giordano's world famous stuffed pizza (you CAN'T miss it if you're in town) -Pablo and César, DO envy me :P-.

At first I though I was gonna be staying at the local Oakwood complex, but it turns out I'll be at the Presidential Towers complex. So, Sweet Home Chicago it is for me then, I'll probably be buying a new guitar -an American Fender- not sure of the exact model yet.

Well, that's it for now, more news are to come when everything actually confirms, probably from Chicago.

Oops! This really conforms the Accesibility rules

Today we found that one of our projects -which has been shown to a myriad of the client's top managers in the last few days- contains the following String in its home page:

We have an avanced search with filters, and a really really simple search for the intellectually challenged.

The funny thing is that this was found by a really simple minded tester who stated in his report:

Under the "Search for Postcards" heading on the home page, avanced should be
spelled advanced.

Oh dear... this is job of mine is so funny...

Zeitgeist

Zeitgeist es una película/documental que se puede ver online en Google Video / YouTube / etc. Es muy difícil para mi hacerle una review que le haga justicia. Está dividida en cuatro partes bien diferenciadas:

• Intro.
• La religión.
• El atentado a las torres gemelas (+pentágono).
• El bizarro sistema financiero norteamericano y su ramificaciones mundiales.
• Conclusión final totalmente paranoide.
  

La intro dura unos 13.5 minutos, es una voz en off planteando una disquisición filosófica un tanto barata y densa desde mi punto de vista. Tómenlo como de quien viene, de alguien del palo de JP Sartre.

Creo que es una película que todos deberíamos ver, por más que no estés de acuerdo al menos te va a hacer pensar un poco y eso ya es más de lo que se puede pedir a la mayoría de los medios de comunicación.

Pensaba escribir una descripción detallada de cada capítulo, me arrepentí, quiero que la vean.
